Gonna Stick My Sword in the Golden Sand: A Vietnam Soldier's Story has just been released. The title comes from a stanza of the gospel traditional, Down by the Riverside, with its refrain--"Ain't gonna study war no more." Golden Sand is a bold, dark, and intense retelling of the Vietnam experience through the eyes of an army scout that is […]

.The Trump kleptocrats are political arsonists. They are carting cans of gasoline into government agencies and Congress to burn down any structure or program that promotes the common good and impedes corporate profit. They ineptly have set themselves on fire over Obamacare, but this misstep will do little to halt the drive to, as Stephen Bannon promises, carr […]

The Wild Reed's series on dance continues with a second excerpt from dancer, philosopher, and scholar of religion Kimerer LaMothe's fascinating book, Why We Dance: A Philosophy of Bodily Becoming. (To read the first excerpt, click here.)Oh, and it's probably helpful to know that for LaMothe, dancing is any bodily movement in which humans […]

To hear the simplistic denial of those who scream out with naiveté “give Trump a chance” as they condemn others engaged in selfless protest against a certain political and social tsunami in the making, is to ignore his life-time public embrace of policies that tens of millions reject as not just destructive, but evil per se. They are not mistaken. Those in st […]

Theologians’ Revolt: Add Your Support

In addition to the growing number of professional theologians signing the Memorandum, there are now thousands of ordinary Catholics adding their signatures to an on-line petition, or joining a facebook group.

Go to the website of Kirche 2011, for the full memorandum in the original German, or for their own English translation.  See the list of professional theologians who are signatories, or sign it yourself, joining the 20 000 who have already done so, here.

  1. Thanks for this link, Terry. I just signed and am forwarding it to other theologians. I noted as I signed that I am a Catholic theologian with a Ph.D. in theology from University of St. Michael’s College in Toronto.

I do not yet know if there is a method by which Catholic theologians in general can sign the petition proper. If I discover that this is the case, then I will sign it “officially” as a theologian, as will several others with whom I’m in touch about this.
